What is Ultrasound imaging!
Ultrasound is a safe, painless imaging test that uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time pictures of the inside of your body. Unlike X-rays or CT scans, ultrasound does not use radiation, making it a trusted option for patients of all ages, including during pregnancy.
During an ultrasound exam, a trained technologist gently moves a small handheld device called a transducer over the area being examined. The transducer sends sound waves into the body and receives the echoes that bounce back, which are then turned into detailed images on a screen. These images help healthcare providers view organs, tissues, and blood flow to assist with diagnosis and treatment planning.
Most ultrasound exams are quick and comfortable, and results are often available promptly. Our goal is to provide high-quality imaging in a calm, patient-focused environment, helping your care team get the information they need to support your health.

Paediatric Ultrasound
Pediatric ultrasound is a safe and non-invasive way to look inside your child’s body without using radiation. At Wollondilly Radiology, we understand that medical exams can be intimidating for little ones. Our pediatric scans use advanced sound wave technology to provide high-resolution images while ensuring your child feels safe, comfortable, and at ease throughout the entire process.
How Pediatric Ultrasound Works
Unlike standard adult imaging, pediatric ultrasound requires a specialized approach that accounts for smaller anatomy and the need for a calm environment. A small probe (transducer) is placed gently on the skin with a warm gel, emitting sound waves that create real-time images of internal organs, blood flow, or musculoskeletal structures.
This technology allows our specialists to monitor growth, diagnose abdominal pain, or check infant hips and kidneys with extreme precision, often providing immediate answers without the need for more invasive tests.
